Holy Living
- Paul tells Timothy, "Watch your life and doctrine closely... you will save both yourself and your hearers" (1 Timothy 4:16). The sermon split holy living into "for your own sake" and "for the world's sake." Which of those two motivations is more compelling to you personally right now, and why?
- The sermon named four things that can quietly take control of us: money, lust, folly (bad voices/influences we let in), and gluttony — "your stomach controls you instead of you controlling it." Which of these is the one you're most tempted to make excuses for right now?
- 1 Peter 2:12 says our good conduct among outsiders leads them to "glorify God," and Titus 2 warns that ungodly conduct can cause "God's word to be discredited." Can you think of a time you saw someone's public conduct — without naming names — either strengthen or damage their witness? What did you take from it?
- The applications named specific areas: hard work, avoiding drunkenness, guarding your tongue, guarding your "thumbs" online. Which of these hits closest to home for you, and what would it actually look like to repent and change there this week?
- The sermon closes by calling holiness "a community project" — Philippians 1:27's "let your manner of life" is plural, "y'all's." Who in your life could use your encouragement toward holy living right now, and who could you ask to hold you accountable in the area you named in question 4?
